Josias Figueirido in group show at The Fabric Workshop and Museum in Philadelphia
Josias Figueirido
(DY 2010) is taking part in a group show at The Fabric Workshop and Museum in
Philadelphia. 'Surface
Forms' showcases silk-screened yardage designs created
through the museum’s Apprentice
Training Program. The exhibition, which is open until 25 June,
presents dozens of original designs ranging in color, style, and subject
matter, alongside swatch books from the museum’s archive. Opening: 17 March,
6–8 pm. More info here.

Christopher Green wins First Prize at the Lynn Painters-Stainers Prize 2017
Congratulations to two of our alumni who won the top two prizes
at the Lynn Painters-Stainers Prize 2017 on Monday night, the opening evening
of the exhibition.
Christopher Green (current Faculty and DY 2008) was
awarded the First Prize (£ 15,000) for his large drawing ‘Lunchtime, Liverpool
Street’ (143x128cm) – see image below:
Michael Chance (DY 2013) was awarded the Second Prize
(£ 4,000) for his painting 'Self Portrait in the Peanut Factory' (oil on
board, 122x152cm). Michael’s painting is a reinterpretation of Rembrandt’s
famous painting Danae (Hermitage, Saint Peterburg).
For those of you who wish to see the exhibition, it is open
until 18 March 2017 at the Mall Galleries, London SW1.

Douglas Farthing exhibits drawings and paintings from Iraq
British Soldiers on the streets of Basra, Iraq (2009) by Douglas Farthing
Douglas Farthing (DY 2015) will be showing work from 2009, made in Iraq during his last tour with the British Army and never exhibited before. The group exhibition, titled 'War & Peace', features four members of the Armed Forces Art Society.

Doug retired from the British Army in 2013, after which he attended the Drawing Year. With no formal art training, he made many drawings on the back of military maps. You can two examples of drawing from Basra here.

had paintings selected for the Lynn Painter-Stainers Prize exhibition in March. The Lynn Painter-Stainers Prize was created in 2005 to encourage the very best
creative representational painting and promote the skill of draughtsmanship.
