Anna Sebastian in solo show, Berlin

Anna Sebastian (DY 2014) has a solo exhibition opening in Berlin in two weeks’ time. Anna draws on her research into voodoo, science-fiction and occultism to create works of both painting and drawing - familiar but distorted. She is inspired by the image of the family and the home; an allegory of unattainability and uncanniness - interpreted from a child's eye. Previous solo exhibitions include Homesession Gallery (Barcelona), DOX Gallery (Prague) and the Ghetto Biennale in Haiti (Port Au Prince). Exhibition dates 18 November - 2 December at ReTramp Gallery Address: Reuterstr. 62, 12047 Berlin, Germany.

Florian Graf publishes a new book

Florian Graf (DY 2009) has published a new book FG ARTIST SERVICE GROUP - Everything Artists Offer (Kodoji Press, ISBN 978-3-03747-076-3). The first book launch with panel discussion took place in Kunsthalle Basel and the next event will be at Grieder Contemporary in Zürich on 7 December at 6.30 pm. You can read a recent article about the book here. An extract from the press release reads: 'Today a huge part of artists’ work is commissioned, rendering artists part of a service industry. Art for art’s sake is nonsense when there are bills to pay; an artist is only emancipated if they can sell what they want to do. ‘FG Artist Service Group’ clarifies a 21st century artist’s position by listing more than 50 different stances that Graf, as artist, may adopt'. With wry humour his book alphabetically catalogues the services Graf can provide, from activist to visionary, court jester to narcissist, film maker to vagabond.

Lottie Stoddart: Westminster Abbey drawings

In March Lottie Stoddart (DY 2015) was granted special access to draw in Westminster Abbey and has now spent over six months making new work in situ. Lottie first became interested in Westminster Abbey as a subject for investigation through visiting it as part of the William Blake course with RDS tutor Mark Cazalet.  About her current project she says: 'Being able to repeatedly revisit the site has enabled me to get to know this, initially, very overwhelming building and create work that reflects my experience of the juxtaposing periods and centuries of re-workings'. This has led to a commission by the Abbey Shop to create a set of cards and a solo exhibition next year. The private view will be on 9th February 2017 in St. Margaret's Westminster. See images of the work in progress here.
