Carl Randall's 'London Portraits' on display in National Portrait Gallery

Carl Randall, London Portraits

‘London Portraits’ is Carl Randall's (The Drawing Year, 2003) most recent painting project - a series of 15 portraits of people who have contributed to British culture and society, with each person being asked to choose a place in London for the background of their portraits. They will be on display in the 'Print Room' in the basement of the Gallery until at least the end of September 2016.

Participants include: Newscaster Jon Snow, Comedienne Jo Brand, Animator Nick Park, Illustrator Raymond Briggs, Novelist David Mitchell, Actress Katie Leung, Poet Benjamin Zephaniah, Actress Julie Walters, Illustrator Dave McKean, Movie producer Jeremy Thomas, Film-maker Julian Temple, Poet Simon Armitage, Dancer Akram Khan, Zoologist Desmond Morris, Actor Antony Sher and Director of the Royal Shakespeare Company Greg Doran.

Tim Betjeman awarded Summer Residency in Giverny

Tim Betjeman (Drawing Year 2007) has been awarded the Terra Summer Residency Fellowship in Giverny, FranceFounded in 2001, the Terra Summer Residency brings together doctoral scholars of American Art and emerging artists worldwide for a nine-week residential program in the historic village of Giverny, France.  The program encourages independent work while providing seminars and mentoring by senior scholars and artists to foster reflection and debate. The Terra Summer Residency provides an opportunity for participants to widen their academic and creative horizons, explore international cultural perspectives, and forge lifelong exchanges and professional networks. The opportunity was advertised in the Alumni Newsletter in January 2016. More info here.

Richard Ford Award 2016



Geraint Evans and Esme Hodsoll (Drawing Year 2015) have been selected for the Richard Ford Award 2016. They will spend two months at the Museo del Prado (Madrid), making drawings from paintings by the Spanish Masters. Established in 1976, the Award is supported by the Royal Academy. Past recipients include Martin Shortis and Susan Wilson (both RDS Faculty).
