John Ruskin Prize 2014

Andrew Farmer

Rydal Hanbury

Rydal exhibited her 1.5 metre drawing ' The Commuters at Mansion House Traffic Lights" at Abbott and Holder gallery next to the British Museum on 22- 24 November and she is also in a group show called '10x 10 Drawing the City' with Jeanette Barnes at the Crossing, 1 Granary Square, N1C 4AA. Studio Available

Freddy Dewe Mathews is looking for someone to share his studio with. It's a very nice and bright space on the ground floor of a block of studios just off Coldharbour Lane; between Brixton and Camberwell (Loughborough Junction). He is very rarely in there at the moment and so you would have it all to yourself most of the time.

Abbey Awards

The Abbey Scholarship and Abbey Fellowships offer all-expenses-paid Residency in Rome, with a stipend of up to £700 a month for the Scholar and £800 for Fellows. The nine-month Abbey Scholarship is usually given to an emergent painter, while the three-month Abbey Fellowships are awarded to mid-career painters. Abbey Awards are open to people of UK and US nationality, and to citizens of other countries provided that they have lived in the UK or the US for at least 5 years. There is no age limit. Jerwood Drawing Prize 2013

Alumnus Coll McDonnell (work pictured) and tutor Jeanette Barnes are in this year's Jerwood Drawing Prize 2013, and current Drawing Year student, Kristian Fletcher, was awarded the student prize for his pen pencil and charcoal drawing 'The Wrench'. Anna Ilsley

Anna won the British School at Athens Bursary 2013. She has just gone to Athens where she will be making work about the seers at Delphi. The award provides a studio and accommodation in the School as well as a bursary of £2,500. You can read more about the British School in Athens here

Ben Barbour

India Teaching Residency

The Prince's Drawing School is now calling for submissions for the India Teaching Residency 2013. There are places for 4 alumni to go on the 10 week residency starting early October 2013 and ending late December 2013. To apply please submit your application form with a portfolio of at least 10 drawings and up to 3 sketchbooks. BP Portrait Award

David Caldwell, Sophie Levi, Freddy Clark (whose portrait of Josh is pictured above), Carl Randall, Clara Drummond and tutor Julie Held are exhibiting in this year's BP Portrait Award Exhibition at the National Portrait Gallery. David's piece is 77 small portraits all done from short sittings with friends, many of whom are Drawing Year alumni. Show opens 20th June and continues until 15 September.

Konrad Gabriel

Konrad will be showing drawings and monoprints in his solo show: " The Human Herd" which open on Wednesday 26 June, 6pm-9pm, at the English Restaurant, 52 Brushfield Street, Spitalfields, E1 6AG. Exhibition continues until 14 July.

Carl Randall

Carl was the recipient of the BP Travel Award 2012, his series of paintings “In the footsteps of Hiroshige: The Tokaido Highway and Portraits of Modern Japan” will be on display at The National Portrait Gallery June 20th – September 15th. The paintings were made on a journey along the route connecting Tokyo and Kyoto which was famously documented by the Japanese Woodblock Printer Ando Hiroshige in 1832.

Jaime Valtierra

Artists of the Pageant

Several Drawing Year alumni are taking part in this exhibition of work from the Thames Diamond Jubilee Pageant which took place last summer. Fabienne Khial

Fabienne took part in 'Art is Bread' at the Gallop Space in Deptford last month. Along with another artist she made 300 postcard size drawings. The show was inspired by the quote by  El Salvador poet Roque Dalton; " Poetry like bread is for everyone."

Perienne Christian

Perienne's drawing is on the cover of this month's edition of the magazine Modern Poetry in Translation. MPT was founded in 1965 by Ted Hughes and Daniel Weissbort whose aim was to deal truthfully with the real contemporary world.
