Lina Audzeviciute, Jake Garfield and Melissa Kime in We Could Not Agree

 Lina, Jake and Melissa were all involved in the recent (huge!) group exhibition in Q Park under Cavendish Square. The exhibition included over 100 artists showing sculpture, painting, drawing, installation, film and sound throughout the 20,000 Sq ft circular space. Curators included Geoff Leong, Vanya Balogh & Cedric Christie, and many others, with Jake being involved in curation and Lina and Lissie exhibiting.

The Bothy Project Residencies: Open Call

The Bothy Project are now accepting applications from practising artists, musicians, and writers for
1-week, Self-Funded Residencies at Sweeney’s Bothy on the Isle of Eigg and Inshriach Bothy in the Cairngorm National Park for dates during winter 2014/15.

Applications are accepted on a first-come-first-served basis to artists that can provide a 200 word proposal outlining what you would like to work on at the bothy along with 200 words describing your practice and a CV evidencing an active artist practice.

Judi Green in The Royal West of England Academy Annual Open Autumn Exhibition

Judi has been included for the third time in The Royal West of England Academy exhibition. Her oil painting, 'Porthcurnick Beach II, diptypch', is now on disply until 7 December, RWA, Bristol, BS8 1PX. Tuesday - Saturday 10am - 6pm. Sunday 11am - 5pm. Last admission 30 minutes before closing. £5 entry.

Jon Bird talking at The Nakeds, The Drawing Room

Jon will be talking at the symposium at the Drawing Room on 10 November, as part of 'The Nakeds' exhibition. Figures of Expression and Transgression 10 November 2014, 2 - 6pm.

For the exhibition, Jon has lent works by Nancy Spero and Leon Golub. He will be giving the talk 'Myth and the Figure in the Work of Leon Golub and Nancy Spero' - a talk by Professor Jon Bird (Art & Critical theory, Middlesex University).

A seminar exploring contemporary artists’ representation of the naked body and the role of drawing in this, Schiele’s legacy in relation to art and the pornographic image, myth and the figure in the work of Leon Golub and Nancy Spero.
The afternoon will include contributions from David Austen (artist and co-curator of The Nakeds), Jon Bird (Professor of Art & Critical theory, Middlesex University), Gemma Blackshaw ( Associate Professor of Art History at the University of Plymouth and co-curator of The Nakeds), Mary Doyle ( co-director of Drawing Room and co-curator of The Nakeds), Simon Grant (writer, editor of TATE ETC. magazine and co-editor of Picpus magazine), Stewart Helm (artist) , Chantal Joffe (artist) and Kate Macfarlane ( co-director of Drawing Room and co-curator of The Nakeds).

'We met whilst on the post-graduate programme at The Prince's Drawing School in 2012, and have spent the intervening period painting and printmaking from our live/work space in Hackney Wick. In August this year we found this exciting space in Hoxton and jumped at the opportunity to create a large bright space in which to work.
We decided to open the space as a gallery to provide a public platform for our work, and to support our peers; a diverse range of emerging artists whose work is built on a foundation of observation, contemplation and practiced use of their medium . We want to promote a kind of image-making that is personal, poetic, and emerges from an artist's sensual and intellectual reckoning with the world.
We will be showing predominantly oil painting, printmaking and drawing, with occasional forays into the worlds of sculpture, film and installation.

Michael Chance is a painter, printmaker and draughtsman whose work is poetic and philosophical, fascinated by contemporary environmentalism and advances in exoplanetary science. Scratched, misted windows and powerful glimpses of landscape meet the scarred surfaces and topography of far-away alien worlds and strange accumulations of future ruins. 

Chance gained a first class degree in Popular Music at Liverpool University, followed by a post-graduate diploma in Drawing at The Prince’s Drawing School, London.

Rachel Mercer is a painter and draughtsman who seeks ‘moments of being’; those rare occurrences of deep harmony between self and nature. Sensitively observing the forms and patterns of natural growth opens a window to the appreciation of true beauty; that which is yielding, soft and adaptive. Her work breathes, permeated by a quiet meditative mood, which stands in opposition to the noise, carelessness and bluster of modern society. 

Mercer completed her BA in Fine Art (first class) at Cardiff School of Art & Design, followed by a post-graduate diploma in Drawing at The Prince’s Drawing School, London.

Dilly Boase exhibition at Petitou Cafe

Dilly is exhibiting drawings and wire sculptures at Petitou Café, 63 Choumert Road, Peckham SE15 4AR.  October 8^th – November 3^rd, 9am – 5.30pm Monday – Saturday,  10 am – 5.30 Sunday.

Curious Projects 'Thinking Drawing' open submission exhibition

Curious Projects is inviting artists, contemporary craftspeople and designers to submit drawings for their December exhibition: 'Thinking Drawing'.

They are looking for sketches, diagrams or working drawings from people who use drawing as an aid to their creative thinking process. For this show, the 27 window panes of the Project Space & Gallery will be transformed into picture frames displaying the selected entries.

'Is there still a place for drawing as a tool for thought in our digital age? 
If you use drawing as part of your creative thinking and idea-generating process we would love to see some of your drawings.'

The submission fee is £4.50 for up to five drawings and is only intended to cover administration costs. The deadline for submission is Sunday 2 November 2014.
