Michael Chance Solo Exhibition in Salford

Michael Chance is exhibiting new paintings and drawings documenting the inner life and surroundings of Islington Mill.

'Over the course of a three week residency, Michael has aimed to enter the Mill’s daily life and capture
its varied moods, its madness and serenity, its inward and outward faces, documenting its spaces and
events through observational drawing and painting. He has also made a series of paintings which
explore its larger context within an area that is in transition, held awkwardly between post-industrial
emptiness and bland redevelopment.'

The exhibition then travels to the Oriel Gallery at Clotworthy House in Antrim, Northern Ireland 24th November - 22nd January 2016.

'Featuring a selection of watercolour works from 21 British artists, the new Contemporary British Watercolours exhibition at Maidstone Museum provides a host of compelling works that demonstrate the 21st-century approach to what has long been heralded as a quintessentially British format.
Curated by acclaimed watercolour artist Simon Carter, the exhibition - which runs from September 19 - November 7 in the Bentlif II and Bearsted-Bentlif Art Galleries - charts contemporary activity within this artistic method. The display represents a fascinating insight into how watercolour as a medium has evolved in the modern era, with excitement and experimentation key to current techniques.'

Jaime Valtierre at Barbican Arts Centre

Jaime Valtierre recently exhibited as part of INTERFACES, an exhibition at Barbican Arts Centre. The event was the result of Magma Collective's involvement (mnemonic City) in an outreach project by Barbican called Fish Island Labs. This project was the result of a joint effort to bring to the Arts Centre the work of those working at the Labs.

Barbican Arts Centre
Opening night: Friday 21st August 6 pm - 9 pm
21st - 23rd August, Saturday 12 pm - 9 pm, Sunday 12 pm - 5 pm

For the exhibition Jaime was be presenting an installation titled 'In Dreams We Dwell'. The work is a multimedia piece that combines the use of traditional and contemporary art and craft technologies including painting, wood work, video animation and projection. It contrasts a series of interconnected narratives that spring from two themes based on two socially distinct
London areas: Hackney Wick and The City of London.

The first subject explores the idea of group as a horizontal organisation rooted on the premise of collective sharing and individual responsibility towards the “goods” of the group. The second relates to an individualistic view of the world based on personal gain and disregard for others.

The work is an artistic response to the experiences gather during the Mnemonic City research period as part of Fish Island Labs / Interfaces.
