Rosie Vohra wins Reach Prize
Rosie Vohra (DY 2014) has won the Afshin Naghouni Reach Prize awarded by Art for Youth London during the exhibition 'In England We Dream of Gardens' which took place at the Mall Galleries. The prize was awarded for her drawing 'A Short Story' (gouache on paper - shown below), as recognition of excellence in drawing. This year the prize was chosen and awarded by artist Afshin Naghouni.

Drawing by Nahem Shoa acquired by V&A
Drawing of Samson and the Philistines after a sculpture by Vincenzo Foggini 1749.

A drawing of Samson and the Philistines
by Nahem Shoa (Drawing Year 2004) has been acquired by
the Victoria & Albert Museum for their permanent collection. The drawing
(from 1993) is after a sculpture by Vincenzo Foggini, dated 1749. Nahem
spent over a month at the V&A making it, approximately 200 hours
of work. The drawing will be stored in a case along with
ten other drawings of statues by Turner, Constable, Reynolds, Moore
and Frink. ‘I consider it the best drawing of this kind of drawing I have ever made. It is
a huge honour’ says the artist.
Eight RDS artists in group exhibition in Cornwall
Eight RDS
artists are included in an exhibition at Tregony Gallery in Cornwall: : Timothy Betjeman, Meg Buick, Alex Cree, Judi Green, Mark Hanson, Sara Lee Roberts, Daniel Preece and Gregory Ward. The
gallery is owned by Drawing Year alumna Judi Green (DY 2002).

14 Alumni in exhibition celebrating the English Garden
Fourteen
alumni are included in the exhibition In England we Dream of Gardens which
will take place at the Mall Galleries next week, curated by Alice Shirley (Drawing
Year 2010). To celebrate the 300th anniversary of the birth of England's
greatest gardener, Lancelot ‘Capability’ Brown, artists were invited to respond
to the theme of ‘The English Garden’. The charitable art exhibition in
support of Art for Youth is a ticketed event in the evening, but free to view
during the day on 14th and 15th September 2016. Buy

Kathryn Maple wins First Prize in the Sunday Times Watercolour Prize 2016 (again!)
Congratulations to Kathryn Maple (Drawing Year 2013) and Chloe Le Tissier (DY 2011) who have won First and Second Prize respectively in this year's Sunday Times Watercolour Prize. Read the full article here.
Kathryn's watercolour 'Sandy Shoes' is based on her travels to Vypin, one of a group of islands in the southwestern Indian state of Kerala. ‘Sandy Shoes looks at the filtered shapes and vibrant colours I experienced there’ she says. Kathryn won the Prize in 2014.
Chloe's watercolour 'Never Alone' is painted on graph paper and depicts a male
figure standing by a pool against a backdrop of tropical flora. You
can see Kathryn and Chloe’s watercolours, along with the other selected works
in the exhibition when it opens at the Mall Galleries on
19 September.

Gallery, London. ‘Isolation Chamber Vacation’,
curated by Sarah Cleaver, takes the concept of solitude as its starting point.

September 2016, 3-6pm. Artists Kirsty Buchanan, Juno

solitude influences their practice, aloneness as a feminist issue and their
references for the exhibition. The discussion will be followed by a screening
of Wim Wenders’ Paris, Texas. Tickets (free or donation) are available here.
Jasmine Paydak in 'Floating Worlds' exhibition
Together with four other artists, Jasmine Pajdak (Drawing Year 2014) has work in an exhibition at the Safehouse in Peckham this weekend.
