Mercer Chance is proud to present an exhibition of paintings and drawings by 12 emerging contemporary artists.
Truly a feast for the eyes, this exhibition gives us a glimpse into a group of young artists who are exploring a wide array of approaches to figurative image-making. Since they came together as post-graduate students at The Royal Drawing School in 2012, they have been pushing their practices independently, each searching for the means to genuinely express their own interests, attitudes and sensitivities.
We are struck by a collision of personalities; vibrant colour, gutsy painting, intense observation, freewheeling imagination, dreamy landscapes, quiet moments of delicacy, dense figuration and patterning. And yet, there are continuities between the pieces and intriguing comparisons to be made. Like a fruit salad, somehow it all comes together; the sweet with the sharp, the subtle and the bold, and we are left enlivened, provoked even.
